Certain Colorado mountains could see 1 to 2 feet of snowfall in the forecast

After an extended period of dry weather in Colorado, a significant storm system is approaching the Rocky Mountain Region, bringing rain and heavy snow to many areas of the state. The southwestern mountains could see up to two feet of snow, with Winter Storm Watches already in place for the weekend. The central and northern mountains may see 3 to 8 inches of snow, making for potentially slick driving conditions over mountain passes on Saturday and Sunday.

In the Denver metro area, the storm system will bring much-needed rainfall, with amounts up to half an inch possible from Friday night through Sunday. Saturday has been designated as a First Alert Weather Day, with cooler temperatures in the upper 40s and low 60s expected.

Before the storm arrives, the eastern plains are facing high fire danger on Thursday, prompting a Red Flag Warning for areas including East and Central Adams and Arapahoe Counties. Strong winds and low humidity levels are expected, creating conditions favorable for wildfires.

Overall, Colorado is preparing for a significant change in weather as the storm system moves in, bringing both relief from the dry conditions and potential hazards like high winds and heavy snow. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and prepare for the arrival of the storm.
