Entertainment workers at Casa Bonita in Lakewood, Colorado, are planning to unionize with the Actors’ Equity Association and IATSE Local 7. The performers, including cliff divers, actors, puppeteers, magicians, and crew, are seeking improved safety, better pay, and clearer communication with management. The unions represent thousands of professionals in the entertainment industry across the country. Casa Bonita management has stated that they value their employees and believe they are treated well, but employees have filed with the National Labor Relations Board for a union election.
Casa Bonita, made famous by its appearance on “South Park,” was bought by creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone in 2021 and underwent renovations. The restaurant reopened in June 2023 after closing early in the pandemic, with reservations initially limited to an email signup list. In September 2024, reservations were opened to the public. The workers’ unionization efforts come as part of a push for improved working conditions in the wake of the restaurant’s bankruptcy filing.
