Boulder County, Colo. – Randy J. Wojno, 64, turned himself in and is facing charges for allegedly stabbing a hiker on a Boulder trail in mid-September. The incident occurred on Sept. 11, near the 3400 block of Flagstaff Road. The victim, who had encountered the suspect before, was stabbed multiple times with a knife before the suspect fled. Wojno was booked into the Boulder County Jail on Wednesday on charges of first-degree assault and allowing a dog to run at-large. His bond was set at $10,000. The victim, who remains unidentified, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital.
One month after the incident, Wojno was arrested and had a hearing where he requested a reduction in his bond, citing his lack of criminal history and ties to the community. The judge maintained the $10,000 bond but authorized a $1,000 cash option as well. Wojno is prohibited from contacting the victim, possessing weapons, or visiting Flagstaff Mountain or its trail system. Charges are expected to be filed on Friday.
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office had identified the suspect the day after the incident and reassured the public that there was no ongoing threat. Details about the investigation have not been disclosed. Wojno’s arrest came following weeks of cooperation from all parties involved. The district attorney’s office had no objection to the revised bond terms.
