Palestinians facing hunger in northern Gaza amid ongoing Israeli assault | Updates on Israel-Palestine conflict

Palestinian health officials are calling for a humanitarian corridor to reach three hospitals in northern Gaza that are on the brink of collapse due to Israeli troops cutting off the area during a ground assault. The hospitals in Jabalia have been targeted for 12 days, with doctors refusing to leave their patients despite evacuation orders. The healthcare system is in dire need of fuel, medical supplies, and food for over 300 medical staff working in the hospitals.

Around 400,000 people are trapped in northern Gaza due to intense bombardment, the presence of Israeli snipers, and ground troops. The UN estimates that no food has been delivered to the area for 12 days, leaving people starving and lacking medical supplies. The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that the Israeli offensive has killed around 350 Palestinians in the area, with many bodies remaining in the streets. The dire humanitarian situation has prompted international alarm, with the US, France, and China calling for an end to the war and immediate humanitarian relief in Gaza’s north.

Despite Israel’s claim of allowing aid supplies into Gaza, reports from healthcare workers on the ground suggest that nothing has reached northern Gaza, leaving people in desperate need. The WHO has called for a ceasefire to ensure children can receive polio vaccinations and essential medical care. The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least 42,400 people, mostly women and children, since October 2023. International pressure is mounting on Israel to improve the situation and allow humanitarian aid to reach those in need.
