Snow Report: Colorado Mountains Expecting Significant Snowfall, Potential Whiteout Conditions

A long-awaited snowstorm is set to hit Colorado, bringing much-needed snow to the state’s mountains. Although ski areas are not open yet, the forecast is promising for upper mountain snow and snowmaking conditions. The storm is expected to target the southern mountains from Friday night through Sunday evening. While temperatures may limit snow accumulations initially, heavier snowfall is forecasted for Saturday, with potential totals of up to 2 feet in the San Juan Mountains. Farther north and east, snow totals between 6-12 inches are possible.

The storm is a welcome relief after a prolonged period of dryness, with Colorado’s median snowpack at 65% of average on October 18. The last measurable precipitation in the state’s mountains was recorded on September 22. While temperatures are forecasted to return to more fall-like levels next week, the arrival of the snowstorm has skiers and riders eager for the start of the winter sports season. As ski areas prepare to open, the Whiteout ski area conditions map will provide updates on trail conditions and snowfall totals. For now, Colorado residents can look forward to a winter-like storm bringing much-needed snow to the region.
