Vice Presidential Debate: Vance Dodges Question on Trump’s 2020 Election Loss as Walz Urges Americans to Defend Democracy | US Elections 2024

During a recent debate, Tim Walz criticized Donald Trump for his failure to accept the results of the 2020 election, highlighting the threat to democracy. When Walz asked JD Vance directly if Trump lost the election, Vance dodged the question, stating that he is focused on the future. This non-answer was deemed as damning by Walz.

Following the debate, Joe Biden praised Walz’s performance, commending him for telling the story of Amber Thurman, a victim of Georgia’s restrictive abortion laws. The Harris-Walz campaign also lauded Walz, contrasting him as a straight talker focused on real solutions, while criticizing Vance for defending Trump’s failures.

Representative Ted Lieu criticized Vance for being an election denier, calling it a disqualifying trait for a Vice President. Vance’s comments on Kamala Harris’ role as a ‘border czar’ were also debunked, as she never held such a title and did not undo Trump’s executive actions on the border.

Vance’s closing remarks focused on energy and criticized Harris for making it difficult for Americans to afford basic necessities. Walz, on the other hand, emphasized the importance of upholding democracy and expressed concern over Trump’s refusal to accept election results. The debate also touched on healthcare, with Vance failing to provide a clear plan for affordable coverage, contrasting with his claim that Trump supported protections for pre-existing conditions.
