The race for Colorado’s 8th Congressional District is shaping up to be a close contest that could have national implications, as a new poll reveals that Democratic incumbent Yadira Caraveo and Republican challenger Gabe Evans are tied with 44% support each. The poll, conducted by Emerson College Polling for Fox31/Channel 2, surveyed 525 likely voters in the district, showing a margin of error of plus or minus 4.2 percentage points.
The district, which was created in the most recent round of redistricting, has been known for its tight races, with Caraveo narrowly winning in 2022. The outcome of this race could be crucial in determining which party controls the U.S. House, as the majority is currently held by Republicans by a slim margin.
The poll also revealed that the economy was the top concern for respondents, followed closely by housing affordability and immigration. The race has been focused heavily on immigration, with Evans attacking the Biden administration’s policies and trying to link Caraveo to them. Caraveo, on the other hand, has emphasized her bipartisan approach to border security issues.
With millions of dollars pouring into the race and both candidates having similar favorability ratings, the upcoming weeks are expected to see a fierce campaign battle as they try to sway the undecided voters. Political experts believe that the final outcome could come down to a small number of voters, especially considering the high percentage of undecided voters in key issues like the economy, housing, and immigration.
