Mark McIntosh, former Denver sportscaster, expresses gratitude to kidney donor: “She changed my life”

Former sportscaster Mark McIntosh recently met his kidney donor, Cathie Hitchcock, who he describes as an angel. McIntosh had been suffering from amyloidosis, a rare disorder that was attacking his kidneys. He underwent chemotherapy and was on dialysis, but needed a kidney transplant to survive. Hitchcock, who was originally going to donate a kidney to her husband but turned out to be a match for McIntosh, donated her kidney to him in June.

After meeting his donor, McIntosh expressed his gratitude, saying, “You shared your spare and saved my life.” Hitchcock, who recovered from the donation, urged others to consider becoming kidney donors, emphasizing the importance of organ donation. McIntosh is now involved in a project to recruit living kidney donors called the “Drive For Five” and is using social media to spread awareness about living kidney donation.

McIntosh and Hitchcock discovered they had a shared connection through McIntosh’s former work as a sports broadcaster. Despite some complications following the transplant, both McIntosh and Hitchcock are doing well and are grateful for the experience. McIntosh is now urging others to consider becoming living kidney donors and raising awareness about the need for organ donation.
