Denver officials held a community meeting at the Glenarm Recreation Center to gather public feedback on improvements in the city’s permitting process. The city reported a 34% reduction in permitting timeline for single family home or duplex projects and a 14% reduction for commercial projects. Residents at the meeting noted improvements in the permitting process in recent years, with one resident stating he was impressed with the changes.
City officials also mentioned a 29% decrease in the time required to add comments to projects, allowing for faster completion of projects. Residents also provided feedback on the city’s 311 service, requesting better tracking of tickets and more responsiveness from agencies.
Mayor Mike Johnston expressed his commitment to creating “transformational changes” to further improve Denver’s permitting process by the end of the year. Despite the improvements made, Johnston and other city officials acknowledged that more can be done to streamline the process.
One suggestion that caught Johnston’s attention was to expedite the process for projects that are identical, as it would make sense for the permitting process to be faster in these cases. Overall, the city is seeking to simplify the process and provide great customer service to residents. The community meeting was described as “validating” by Johnston, who emphasized the importance of making the permitting process more efficient for residents and builders.
