The Colorado Attorney General’s Office has announced a 15-count indictment against Shannon McShane, a parental evaluator accused of using fake credentials to obtain a state license as a psychologist. McShane falsely claimed to have earned a PhD in psychology from the University of Hertfordshire in the UK, allowing her to obtain licensure as a psychologist, certified addiction counselor, and licensed addiction counselor in Colorado. Officials from the university have no records of McShane as a student or graduate. Over six years, McShane held positions as a child and family investigator in child custody cases, providing reports and recommendations to judges and magistrates. She allegedly testified under oath that she held a PhD and also obtained a position at the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo by claiming to have a PhD. Attorney General Phil Weiser stated that this behavior is a breach of public trust, and McShane is being held accountable for her alleged actions. She faces charges of attempting to influence a public servant, forgery, perjury, and retaliation against a victim or witness. McShane is currently in custody at the Denver Downtown Detention Center. Weiser emphasizes the seriousness of the situation and the need to prevent such fraudulent behavior in the future.
