A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of mother and postal worker Octavia Redmond in Chicago. Redmond was found shot on her route in the city’s West Pullman neighborhood in July. The teen is charged with felony first-degree murder, and police have used footage from cameras to identify him. The suspect’s vehicle was found the following day, and police are searching for other people of interest in the case. The victim’s husband has created a fundraiser to help with funeral expenses, which has received nearly $8,000 of a $12,000 goal. The teen has been extradited to Chicago and is charged as a juvenile, with his next court appearance scheduled for November 1. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Chicago police or the USPS hotline. Postal Inspector Spencer Block has urged the public to provide any information that could help to identify and locate other responsible subjects. This arrest is seen as the first step in securing justice for Mrs. Redmond and her family, according to Ruth M. Mendonça, Inspector in Charge of the Chicago Division of the USPS.
