Former President Donald Trump issued a threat against Google on Friday, stating that if he were to be elected president in 2024, he would direct the justice department to pursue criminal charges against the tech giant. Trump accused Google of unfairly promoting negative news about him while only displaying positive news about his potential opponent in the 2024 election, Kamala Harris. The threat was made in a post on the Truth Social platform.
Google has denied any manipulation of search results and insisted that both campaign websites appear at the top of relevant search queries. However, conservatives have long criticized Google for allegedly favoring Democrats in its search results. The Media Research Center, a conservative media watchdog, has previously claimed that Google has provided assistance to Democrats.
In addition to his threat against Google, Trump has also made similar promises to prosecute other perceived opponents. He recently warned of criminal charges against individuals he believes were involved in election fraud if he were to win the presidency in 2024. He also suggested that former House speaker Nancy Pelosi should face prosecution for not preventing the January 6 Capitol attack, which was incited by his own supporters.
During a campaign rally in Michigan, Trump called for an investigation into Pelosi and her husband over allegations of selling Visa stock before the justice department filed an antitrust lawsuit against the company. Trump’s comments reflect his continuing use of threats and accusations against his perceived enemies, as he seeks to regain power in the upcoming election.
