The NHL preseason is in full swing, with teams making tough decisions to trim their rosters before the regular season begins. The Athletic’s Corey Pronman and Harman Dayal are providing daily analysis of the top players placed on waivers.
On Friday, Sept. 27, Ronnie Attard of the Philadelphia Flyers was placed on waivers. Attard, a right-hand defenseman, has shown promise in the past three NHL seasons but has yet to secure a full-time roster spot. He has good offensive skills and can play a two-way game, but his skating and decision-making have been areas of concern.
In addition to Attard, several other players were placed on waivers, including Louie Belpedio, Rhett Gardner, and Hayden Hodgson of the Flyers, as well as multiple players from the Ottawa Senators, Seattle Kraken, New York Rangers, and Columbus Blue Jackets.
When a player is waived, the rest of the league has 24 hours to put in a claim for them. If a player goes unclaimed, their team can then assign them to the minor leagues.
As NHL teams continue to make roster moves in preparation for the regular season, fans can expect more player movement and tough decisions in the coming days. Stay tuned for further updates and analysis from Pronman and Dayal as the preseason progresses.
