Texas Border Patrol confiscates more than 700 pounds of bologna

A U.S. citizen woman had 748 pounds of Mexican bologna, 280 boxes of prescription medication, and $7,600 in cash confiscated by Border Patrol agents during an inspection at the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas. The woman had only declared a cooked meal during the initial inspection, leading to a second inspection where the hidden items were discovered. The bologna was destroyed as it is a prohibited product that could introduce foreign animal diseases to the U.S. pork industry. The woman was fined $1,000 for failing to declare the items and emphasized the importance of travelers educating themselves on what products can legally enter the country. Prohibited items at U.S. borders include dangerous toys, unsafe cars, bush meat, and illegal substances, and can result in seizure and civil penalties. CBP encourages travelers to declare all items they are transporting to avoid fines and penalties and to prevent the potential introduction of harmful diseases to the U.S. economy and agriculture industry.
