About 60 Lazio fans were held overnight and banned from attending their UEFA Europa League match against Dynamo Kyiv in Hamburg after German police seized weapons from them. The fans were stopped after attempting to evade a police escort near the city’s town hall and were subsequently searched by riot officers. Weapons found included knives, meat pounders, and wooden planks, among others.
Hamburg police said the Serie A fans spent the night in cells before being released the following day. Lazio went on to win the match 3-0 against Dynamo Kyiv. The match took place in Hamburg due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
Lazio supporters have a history of causing trouble, with the club facing sanctions in both Serie A and Europe. In a separate incident in Munich, an Italian fan was arrested for performing an Adolf Hitler salute before a match against Bayern Munich. Lazio fans have also been involved in racist incidents, leading to the team playing a Serie A game with part of the stadium closed to spectators.
Despite these incidents, Lazio continues to face issues with its supporters and their behavior. The club has taken measures such as banning fans for life and facing sanctions from both domestic and European competitions. The incident in Hamburg is just one of many instances where Lazio fans have created trouble for the club and its reputation.
