Israel Claims to Have Killed Senior Hezbollah Air Force Commander Amid Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Middle East and North Africa

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that they killed the head of Hezbollah’s air force unit, Mohammad Surur, in a strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs. Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that they will continue striking Hezbollah until all their goals are achieved, including the return of residents in the north to their homes. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned of the risk of an all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah, urging for a diplomatic solution.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas addressed the UN General Assembly, calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to military aggressions in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. He condemned the Israeli government’s actions, labeling them as a genocide against Gaza and Lebanon. Abbas urged world leaders to stop sending weapons to Israel and demanded international protection for Palestinians on their occupied lands.

The UK Defense Secretary emphasized the need to stand against Russian aggression and support peace in the Middle East. Israel had initially supported a 21-day ceasefire proposal before backing down publicly. Foreign Minister Israel Katz ruled out a ceasefire in the north, while Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir threatened to withdraw from Netanyahu’s coalition if a permanent ceasefire with Hezbollah is agreed upon. The situation remains tense as Israel continues its offensive against Hezbollah, sparking fears of an all-out war with devastating consequences for both Israel and Lebanon.
