Israel has announced a new wave of strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, targeting weapons and terrorist infrastructure. The bombing campaign has already killed nearly 560 people, including 50 children, and many have been injured and forced to flee their homes. The strikes are seen as a response to Hezbollah’s missile attacks, including an intercepted missile aimed at the Mossad in Tel Aviv.
Lebanon’s foreign minister has expressed disappointment in the US response to the conflict, calling on the US to end the conflict. The UN has warned that Lebanon is on the brink of becoming a second Gaza, with the crisis escalating into a non-stop nightmare.
Hezbollah has also targeted Israeli military sites, while Israel vows to continue its offensive until Hezbollah agrees to a diplomatic resolution or ceases its attacks. The EU’s foreign policy chief has described the conflict as almost a “full-fledged war,” with diplomatic efforts so far having little impact on tensions.
The UN refugee agency has been affected by the violence, with two staff members killed in Lebanon. The US and UK are preparing for emergency evacuations, with the UK moving troops to Cyprus. Erdogan of Turkey has called for UN measures against Israel, accusing the US of continuing to arm Israel despite calls for a ceasefire.
The situation in the Middle East remains tense, with ongoing violence and a growing humanitarian crisis. The conflict shows no signs of abating, with both sides continuing to escalate their attacks.
