Israel escalates bombing campaign in southern Lebanon amid rising tensions | Israel-Palestine conflict updates

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has warned Hezbollah that the group would “pay an increasing price” as Israel intensified attacks on southern Lebanon. Israeli warplanes targeted several towns in the Jezzine area, with the military striking approximately 100 rocket-launchers and other infrastructure. This comes amid heightened tensions in the region following device attacks against Hezbollah members in Lebanon and Syria, which Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah described as crossing “all red lines”. Nasrallah vowed retaliation against Israel and stated that the group would continue operations until the aggression on Gaza stops.

The White House has expressed support for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas to “lower the temperature” in the region, while also affirming their stance against Iran-backed threats. A preliminary investigation by Lebanese authorities found that the devices used in the attacks were implanted with explosives before arriving in the country and were detonated via electronic messages.

The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel has escalated in recent weeks, with Israeli leaders hinting at a potential larger military operation against Hezbollah. This follows clashes that have resulted in casualties on both sides, including the killing of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in late July and Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. With tensions running high, the situation in the region remains volatile as both sides are prepared to retaliate and continue their operations.
