Former President Donald Trump spoke at an anti-Semitism event organized by Miriam Adelson, where he criticized Jewish-Americans for voting heavily Democratic, stating that those who support Vice President Kamala Harris “should have their head examined.” Trump received only 24% of the Jewish vote in the 2020 election, despite claiming to be the best president for them and Israel. Critics accused Trump of engaging in stereotypes by only focusing on Israel-related issues when talking to Jewish voters.
Trump claimed that he would be the best friend Jewish-Americans have ever had in the White House and expressed frustration for not receiving more support from the Jewish community. He also warned that a Harris victory would lead to the destruction of Israel. In response, Jewish organizations and leaders condemned Trump’s comments, labeling them as anti-Semitic and divisive.
Trump also made similar remarks at a speech to the Israeli-American Council, where he reiterated his belief that Jewish voters should support him based on his record on Israel issues. He warned that a Harris win could be detrimental to Israel and suggested that the Jewish vote could be the reason for his potential election loss.
Critics, including the Jewish Democratic Council of America and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, accused Trump of spreading anti-Semitic tropes and dividing the Jewish community into “good” and “bad” camps. They urged him to stop playing into dual loyalty stereotypes and to refrain from labeling those who do not support him as disloyal or crazy, as it could make Jews less safe.
