A surge in voter registrations has been reported in Colorado following key events such as the presidential debate and social media posts from celebrities like Taylor Swift. According to the Colorado Secretary of State’s office, nearly 4 million Coloradans are now registered to vote. The office noted significant increases in registrations after events like the debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, a voter registration banner on social media by Meta, and National Voter Registration Day on Sept. 17. Prior to this, the state was seeing an average of 1,604 new registrations or updates per day, but this number spiked after these events. Secretary of State Jena Griswold expressed excitement over the increase in voter engagement and encouraged every Coloradan to participate in the upcoming election.
In September alone, over 60,000 state residents have registered to vote or updated their registration, bringing the total registered number to 3,906,892. Democrats make up 26% of the registered voters, Republicans 23.2%, and unaffiliated voters 48.6%. The Secretary of State’s office has set up a special section on their website for anyone looking to update their registration or register to vote. This surge in voter engagement is seen as a positive sign for the upcoming November election in Colorado.
