Aurora Funeral Home Seeks Community Support to Lay Unaccompanied Veteran to Rest

Abbott Funeral Services in Aurora, Colorado, is reaching out to the community to help give an unaccompanied veteran, Steven Theodore Lucas, a proper burial. Lucas, who served in the U.S. Navy from 1982 to 1987, passed away at the age of 60 with no known relatives. The funeral home has been unable to locate any family members and is urging the public to come together to honor his service and memory.

Sandra Abbott, the owner of Abbott Funeral Services, emphasized the challenges that veterans face when transitioning back into civilian life and the lack of support they often receive. She and her team are determined to give Lucas the dignified farewell he deserves, despite the absence of family members to arrange his burial.

The community is invited to attend the burial service for Lucas at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Tuesday morning, where he will be laid to rest. The cemetery is located at 4400 W Kenyon Avenue in Denver, and attendees are asked to arrive promptly at 9:45 a.m. to pay their respects to the veteran.

This poignant story serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by veterans and the importance of honoring their service, even in death. Abbott Funeral Services’ call to action highlights the role that communities can play in supporting veterans who may not have family to ensure they receive a proper send-off.
