RTD Light Rail Commences Training Runs in Downtown Denver

Light rail trains are set to start running in downtown Denver on Monday as part of RTD’s Downtown Rail Reconstruction project. Despite the trains being in service, official service to downtown stations will not start until late September. The project involves reconstruction of rail track and infrastructure at various downtown intersections.

Trains will be running from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily during operator training, with trains marked as “not in service” during this time. RTD is advising people to be cautious around rail routes. The D and H lines will be rerouted through Union Station, and the L line will be suspended until September 29 for safety testing and training.

The completion of the first phase of the project on September 29 marks the beginning of revenue service, with further reconstruction work planned for 2025. The project aims to improve safety and mobility along the 30-year-old rail infrastructure, which has been in service since 1994.

More information about current RTD services can be found online.
