The FBI is investigating another assassination attempt on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, which occurred at the Trump International Golf Club in Florida while Trump was golfing. The Secret Service saw a man with a rifle in the bushes and shot at the suspect, who later fled and was apprehended on a highway. This is not the first attempt on Trump’s life, as he was previously shot during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania in July. Four U.S. presidents have been assassinated while in office, including Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, William McKinley, and John F. Kennedy. Meanwhile, four presidents, including Trump, Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, and Theodore Roosevelt, survived assassination attempts. Other leaders who have faced assassination attempts include Robert F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1968, and Alabama Governor George C. Wallace, who was shot in 1972. The Congressional Research Service notes that direct assaults against presidents, presidents-elect, and candidates have occurred on at least 15 separate occasions, with five resulting in death. Despite the dangers they face, U.S. leaders have, in many cases, shown resilience and survived attempts on their lives.
