Authorities are holding a news conference to share details about the second botched assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump. The incident occurred at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, where a suspect, identified as Ryan Routh, was found with a loaded assault rifle near Trump. Routh appeared in federal court on charges of possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Although Routh did not fire any shots, he was within range of Trump. The suspect drove off in a black SUV leaving behind various items including a rifle, backpack, bags, camera, and food. This marks the second assassination attempt on Trump in recent months, as a gunman previously opened fire at one of his rallies in Pennsylvania. The news conference is set to stream live on USA TODAY’s platforms at 4 p.m. EST for updates on the situation.
