Ryan Routh, the man held in a suspected assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, was a vocal supporter of Ukraine in its fight against Russia. Despite his passion for Ukraine, Routh had a history of business troubles and court filings. He was arrested after allegedly sticking the barrel of a rifle through the fence at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida, while Trump was golfing. The Secret Service agents on the course spotted the weapon and opened fire on Routh, who fled the scene but was later arrested while driving on Interstate 95.
Routh had a history of fiery and idealistic commentary on social media, expressing his willingness to risk his life for his ideals. He claimed to have recruited soldiers for foreign wars and even suggested he had traveled to Ukraine to fight against Russian forces.
In addition to his passionate beliefs, Routh had experienced business conflicts and legal issues with over 200 court cases listed in his name in North Carolina. Despite operating a construction business in Hawaii, he faced controversy when he failed to complete projects and retained deposits from clients.
The incident at the golf course marked the second attempted assassination on Trump in recent months, highlighting concerns about presidential security measures. Sheriff Bradshaw emphasized that security precautions would likely be increased in the future to prevent similar incidents.
