Two Coloradans, Scott Hally and Xavier Rodriquez, were recently awarded Match of the Year by Big Brothers Big Sisters Colorado. The two have been matched for nearly a decade and enjoy activities such as snowboarding, photography, and rock climbing. Their strong bond and positive impact on each other led to their nomination and win for this prestigious award.
While celebrating their achievement, Big Brothers Big Sisters Colorado President Elycia Cook highlighted the ongoing need for mentors in the Denver metro area. Cook shared that at least 400 young people, with a majority being boys, are in need of mentors. Despite common misconceptions about mentoring, Cook emphasized that anyone can make a difference by simply being present for these young individuals.
Scott and Xavier’s story serves as an inspiration for others to get involved and become mentors to make a positive impact on the lives of young people in need. With their years of dedicated friendship and shared experiences, they serve as shining examples of the transformative power of mentorship. Big Brothers Big Sisters Colorado urges the community to step up and help bridge the gap between the number of youth in need of mentors and the available resources.
