Renowned musician and composer Jim Green, known for creating the beloved jingles that have accompanied millions of travelers at Denver International Airport, passed away at the age of 75 on September 11, 2024. Since the airport’s opening in 1995, Green’s music has filled the terminals, transforming the automated train into a melodic journey for passengers.
Denver International Airport paid tribute to Green on their Instagram account, praising his creativity and the joy he brought to the airport experience. Green’s most famous creation, the “Train Call”, was a blend of traditional folk songs and unique sounds created using a variety of instruments and synthesizers, as well as household objects.
Local icons like Adele Arakawa, Alan Roach, and Mayor Mike Johnston, as well as sports legends like Peyton Manning, have lent their voices to the announcements heard in the airport’s train cars and stations. The sounds have become so popular that they are now available as downloadable ringtones for fans to enjoy.
In addition to his work at the airport, Green’s talent as an audio artist was showcased in various installations across Denver, including a “soundwalk” on Curtis Street and unique installations at the Denver Convention Center and Denver Art Museum. Green’s legacy lives on through the joyful sounds he created, which have become an integral part of the Denver airport experience for millions of travelers.
