Accused DUI driver injures Hillsborough County deputy in crash

A Florida sheriff’s deputy, Ivan Clark, was hospitalized after his unmarked police vehicle was struck by an alleged drunk driver while responding to a report of a reckless driver. Clark was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled over several times. He was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital and was in stable condition as of Sunday morning. The suspected DUI driver, Uriel Garcia Nestor, was arrested and had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.121. Nestor was charged with driving while under the influence with serious bodily injury, driving while under the influence with property damage, and driving with a suspended license with serious bodily injury.

Sheriff Chad Chronister emphasized the dangers that impaired drivers pose to the community, stating that it is disappointing that someone would make the reckless decision to drive impaired, putting not only their own life at risk but also endangering everyone else on the road. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of driving under the influence and the importance of making responsible decisions behind the wheel.
