In Bonita Springs, Florida, deputies and a wildlife official successfully captured an 8-foot alligator that showed up on a resident’s front lawn. The deputies assisted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in corralling the “swamp puppy” and safely relocating it. A video of the capture was posted on the Lee County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page, garnering over 20,000 views and numerous reactions.
The capture process was not fully shown in the video, but it depicted the deputies and wildlife official surrounding the alligator and eventually getting it bound and into a truck. While the current condition and location of the alligator are unknown, the wildlife commission can be contacted for updates.
In Florida, alligator-human interactions are becoming more common due to population growth and increased waterfront activities. Residents are advised to avoid feeding alligators, keep a safe distance if encountering one, keep pets on a leash near water, and swim only in designated areas during the day. In case of any alligator-related concerns, residents can contact the wildlife commission’s nuisance alligator hotline for assistance.
Despite living peacefully alongside alligators for centuries, serious injuries from alligator encounters are rare in Florida. The commission emphasizes the importance of respecting these creatures’ natural habitat and taking precautionary measures to prevent conflicts.
