Xcel Energy teams up with 40 non-profit organizations across the state for its Day of Service, with one project focusing on providing food for children in need. Food for Thought Denver, founded by Bob Bell in 2012, now serves 75 schools and distributes 35,000 to 40,000 bags of food every month to students facing food insecurity. Volunteers pack PowerSacks with enough food for a family of four, including easy-to-prepare snacks and recipes for meals. The organization relies on volunteer support as it has no paid employees. Xcel Energy employees, like Robert Holschuh, find joy in volunteering and supporting the project. Holschuh and his colleagues coordinated their own volunteer opportunity and plan to return for Xcel Energy’s 2024 Day of Service. Xcel Energy’s Day of Service, in its 13th year, will take place on September 13 and 14, 2024, showcasing the company’s commitment to community service. This initiative highlights how partnerships between corporations like Xcel Energy and non-profit organizations can make a significant impact on those in need, fostering a sense of community and responsibility among employees.
