Red Rocks to Host Stair Climb Honoring First Responders Lost on 9/11 in NYC

On the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Coloradans gathered at Red Rocks Amphitheatre to honor the lives lost with a memorial stair climb. The event began with a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., the time when the first plane hit the North Tower. Participants then climbed the stairs, symbolizing the heroic efforts of first responders in New York on that fateful day.

Firefighters from across the state donned full gear and oxygen tanks, climbing 110 stories to pay tribute to the 343 NYC firefighters who lost their lives. The number of first responders who have since died from 9/11-related injuries has surpassed those killed in the attacks. One participant, James Einboden, shared his emotional connection to the tragedy as his brother survived the collapse of the Second World Trade Center.

The climb honored the sacrifices made by first responders and encouraged participants to reflect on the events of that tragic day. Robert McCarty, a firefighter and paramedic, emphasized the unpredictable nature of a firefighter’s job, echoing the sentiments of gratitude and remembrance present at the event. The climb served as a reminder of the bravery and selflessness shown by first responders in the face of adversity.

The community came together to show their support and respect for the lives lost on 9/11, demonstrating the enduring impact of the tragic events that unfolded 23 years ago.
