Authorities are continuing their search for a man accused of injuring five people in a shooting on a Kentucky highway. The suspect, Joseph Couch, had planned to “kill a lot of people” before turning the gun on himself, according to text messages. The rugged terrain of the Daniel Boone National Forest has made the search difficult, with its cliffs, sinkholes, caves, and venomous wildlife making it challenging to locate Couch. Despite deploying helicopters, drones, and dogs, authorities have yet to locate him, with the vastness of the forest posing unique challenges. The search has forced area schools to remain closed as the community remains on edge. In the past, the forest has proven difficult to search teams, even in cases where the missing person wanted to be found. The region’s steep slopes, cliffs, and narrow ravines make it dangerous, especially off-trail. As authorities continue their search, they hope that Couch will be drawn out of the woods due to cold nights and humid days that will make survival difficult. For now, the manhunt continues as law enforcement officials work to locate the suspect and bring him to justice.
