The Colfax Canvas Mural Fest is back for its fifth year, bringing art and community to Aurora’s Cultural Arts District. The festival features large-scale murals painted on local businesses by a diverse group of artists. The culminating block party on Saturday includes guided tours, a car show, a food court, and family activities, all aimed at showcasing the vibrant neighborhood. The festival was created to change the narrative of the area, which is often overlooked, and celebrate its diverse communities. The murals represent the cultures and stories of the region, with over 30 now adorning the neighborhood. Artists are selected by a committee and work together with building owners to create designs that reflect the business and neighborhood. The Vintage Theater is getting its first Colfax Canvas mural this year, adding to the art in the neighborhood and bringing joy to the community. Local artist J. “Bird” Hernandez and Rachel “Dreamscape” Dinda collaborated on a mural for the theater, featuring vivid colors and animals to bring hope and joy to the area. Hernandez hopes the mural will help connect him to the local art community even more and brighten people’s days as they pass by. The festival aims to show the beauty and diversity of the neighborhood, countering negative perceptions often portrayed in the media. The festival will conclude with five new murals at different businesses as part of the ongoing effort to bring art and life to the area. For more information, visit ColfaxCanvas.com.
