Colorado’s culinary scene has once again impressed Michelin Guide inspectors, with four restaurants being added to the prestigious list this year. Denver’s Alma Fonda Fina received a One Star rating, with Chef Johnny Curiel being praised for his creative dishes that pay homage to his Mexican upbringing. Chef Johnny also won the 2024 Colorado Young Chef Award.
The restaurant was commended for dishes like pork belly carnitas on a sourdough flour tortilla and agave-roasted sweet potato with whipped requesón. Alma Fonda Fina joins five other One Star restaurants from last year’s selection, including Beckon, Brutø and the Wolf’s Tailor, Frasca Food and Wine, and Bosq.
MAKfam was also recognized with a Bib Gourmand award, with its Chinese American menu praised for its big flavors and high quality. Two more Denver restaurants, Brasserie Brixton and Kawa Ni, were added to the list of recommended restaurants in Colorado.
The Michelin Guide has been focusing on Colorado’s dining scene, with inspectors visiting Denver, Boulder, Aspen, Vail, and Beaver Creek. The guide, which originated in France over a century ago, is also present in New York, Chicago, California, Florida, and Washington, D.C.
