Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris will face off in the first presidential debate on Tuesday night in Philadelphia. The debate will take place at the National Constitutional Center at 9 p.m. ET and will be moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis. Both candidates have accepted the rules for the debate, which include no opening statements, two-minute answers to questions, and no audience in the room. The candidates will stand behind podiums and will not be allowed to bring props or prewritten notes onstage. The moderators will seek to enforce timing agreements and ensure a civilized discussion. To qualify for the debate, candidates must meet the requirements outlined in Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution, file a Statement of Candidacy with the FEC, and appear on a sufficient number of state ballots to attain a majority of electoral votes. The debate will air on ABC and stream on ABC News Live, Disney+, and Hulu, as well as simulcast on Fox News, CBS News, and CNN. A primetime pre-debate special, “Race for the White House,” will begin at 8 p.m. ET. The candidates will have two-minute closing statements, with Trump winning the coin toss and choosing to offer the last statement.
