Air raid sirens were heard near a nuclear power plant in Kurchatov, Russia’s Kursk region, signaling a missile threat. The UN nuclear agency is inspecting the plant amid reports of drone fragments found near its nuclear storage facility. Ukraine’s top general, Oleksandr Syrskyi, disclosed capturing almost 600 Russian soldiers in the Kursk incursion. He stated that Russian troops were attempting to encircle Kyiv’s forces but were being repelled. Amid ongoing attacks in Ukraine, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed support for a swift end to the conflict after visiting the war-torn country.
The Russian FSB opened a criminal case against two foreign journalists for illegally crossing the border to report from the Kursk region. Meanwhile, Russia claimed to have captured the village of Orlivka in eastern Ukraine, although the report could not be independently verified. Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, was arrested in France on charges related to child sex abuse, drug trafficking, and fraudulent transactions on the messaging platform, sparking accusations of US involvement from a senior ally of Vladimir Putin.
In response to growing tensions, the Russian foreign minister accused Ukraine of demanding powers to strike into Russia, while also warning against Western nuclear powers “playing with fire” with nuclear weapons. Amidst the conflict, Ukraine’s forces continue to advance in the Kursk region, with Moscow building up forces near the eastern Pokrovsk front. The situation remains precarious as both sides engage in warfare and diplomatic tensions escalate.
