A Colorado family is taking advantage of the state’s new housing law to spend more time together. House Bill 24-1152, signed into law in May, allows homeowners to build accessory dwelling units (ADUs) to help ease the housing crunch. Laurel Triscari and her daughter Ami Roeschlein decided to explore ADUs as a way to have Triscari closer to family as she got older. After two years of research, they found a company to help them build an ADU in their backyard for Triscari to age in place. Anchored Tiny Homes, the company they chose, has seen an increase in business since the law took effect, with hundreds of people inquiring about building ADUs in their backyards. Co-owner Brent Dowling mentioned that ADUs are cost-effective and allow homeowners to design their own space. As Triscari and Roeschlein eagerly await the completion of their ADU, they look forward to spending more time together as a family.Colorado’s new housing law is having a positive impact on families like the Triscari-Roeschlein clan, who are using ADUs to create multi-generational living arrangements. By taking advantage of this law, more families in Colorado are finding solutions to housing challenges and strengthening their bonds through innovative housing options.
