New Hotel in Downtown Denver Sets Opening Date

Denver’s newest downtown hotel, The Populus, is set to open its doors on September 18th. The hotel aims to be the first carbon positive hotel in the nation, with a mission to plant one tree for every night’s stay sold in partnership with the National Forest Foundation. This initiative is expected to result in up to 20,000 newly planted trees by 2024.

Located at 240 14th Street, The Populus is inspired by Colorado’s aspen trees and incorporates environmentally friendly features such as regenerative agriculture, 100% renewable electricity, and zero-waste dining. General Manager George Prine emphasizes the hotel’s commitment to sustainable travel, stating that conscious traveling can enhance the guest experience while making a positive impact on the environment.

Designed by Studio Gang, the hotel’s architecture resembles aspen trees, with windows shaped like the scars on the trees’ bark. Developed by Urban Villages and managed by Aparium Hotel Group, The Populus will feature two restaurants led by Executive Chef Ian Wortham: Pasque on the ground floor and Stellar Jay on the rooftop terrace.

Pasque, named after a Colorado wildflower, offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a setting inspired by the forest floor. Stellar Jay, named after a Colorado bird, will serve dinner with a focus on live-fire cooking and offer both indoor and outdoor seating with views of downtown Denver.

Room rates at The Populus range from $263 to $1,346 per night for the Mountain Studio Suite, with reservations available starting October 1st. The hotel’s dedication to sustainability, unique design, and environmentally conscious initiatives make it an exciting addition to Denver’s hotel scene.
