Three people have been killed and four injured in a stabbing attack at a festival in the western German city of Solingen. The attack took place during a festival to honour the city’s 650th anniversary, with the suspect, an unidentified man, still at large. The attack occurred at a market square where live music was taking place, with the assailant fleeing the scene after the random attacks. Police have cordoned off the city centre as investigations are ongoing, with fatal stabbings and shootings being relatively uncommon in Germany. Solingen Mayor Tim-Oliver Kurzbach expressed his sorrow over the attack and offered prayers for the victims and their families. The festival, known as the “Festival of Diversity,” had just begun and was supposed to be a weekend-long event celebrating the city’s milestone anniversary. The incident has left the city in shock and mourning as residents come to terms with the tragic events that unfolded. Law enforcement is working tirelessly to identify and apprehend the perpetrator while the community comes together to support those affected by the senseless violence.
