The closure of Sable Elementary last year by the Aurora Public School Board had a significant impact on the community. However, the district has transformed the building into the vibrant Sable Child Development Center, offering preschool for children ages three to five. Shannon Haney, the center’s coordinator, leads the efforts to provide a nurturing environment for students. The center focuses on social and emotional development, along with academic readiness, through innovative programs like a mindfulness classroom and a STEAM classroom. The response from families has been positive, with enrollment steadily increasing. The center currently serves a diverse student body, reflecting the community’s demographics. With a capacity for 256 students, the Sable CDC is actively recruiting for its half-day afternoon sessions. Families interested in enrolling their children can apply through UPK or the ACA department. The center’s goal is to prepare students to be kind, self-efficacious problem solvers who are ready for kindergarten. For more information on enrollment, visit the Sable CDC website.
