Jarrett Stidham will start another preseason game for the Denver Broncos, but rookie Bo Nix has been named the Week 1 starter. Nix will not play in the final preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals as he prepares for his NFL debut against the Seattle Seahawks. Zach Wilson, who has been third-string, will play significant snaps in the game as well.
Wilson, acquired by the Broncos in the 2024 Draft, has shown promise in the preseason, completing 12-of-19 passes for 146 yards and one touchdown. However, he has a history of being sack-prone and has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns in his career.
Head coach Payton sees potential in Wilson and is looking forward to evaluating him with the second team on Sunday. Payton has a track record of successfully developing quarterbacks, including Drew Brees, Teddy Bridgewater, Jameis Winston, and Tony Romo.
The Broncos may consider keeping all three quarterbacks on the roster as they approach final roster cuts. With Nix named the starter for Week 1, the team is confident in the direction they are heading with their quarterback situation.
