The Aurora Police Department recently made headlines after arresting four suspects connected to a serial shoplifting scheme. The investigation began when a stolen Ford F-150 was identified in an armed robbery at an Aurora business. Detectives were able to locate the vehicle, with five occupants inside, driving in Aurora. Surveillance led to the discovery of stolen merchandise being divided among the suspects at a shopping center. Officers then successfully arrested four suspects and recovered stolen items worth hundreds of dollars, returning them to the businesses. The suspects, from Denver and Aurora, are facing charges under Aurora’s strict retail theft ordinance. Passed in 2023 and strengthened this year, the ordinance mandates jail time for retail theft of $100 or more, with repeat offenders facing even harsher penalties. The armed robbery investigation is still ongoing. The Aurora Police Department commended the officers for their diligent work in apprehending the suspects and recovering stolen items. With these arrests, law enforcement hopes to send a strong message against criminal activities such as shoplifting and armed robbery in the Aurora area.
