A police convoy in Punjab province, Pakistan was attacked by gunmen armed with rocket-propelled grenades, resulting in the deaths of at least 11 officers and injuries to seven others. The ambush took place in the Rahim Yar Khan district’s Kacha town, an area known to be a stronghold for criminals and robbers. The officers were on patrol searching for robbers in the region when they were attacked by the gunmen. The bandits reportedly targeted the convoy after one of the vehicles broke down. While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, authorities believe it was carried out by robbers rather than a known armed group.
The attack is one of the deadliest of its kind in recent years in Pakistan, where security forces often conduct operations against bandits hiding in rural and forested areas. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for immediate and effective action against those responsible for the attack on the police convoy.
In a separate incident on the same day, gunmen opened fire on a school van in Punjab, killing two children and injuring six others. The motive for this attack was believed to be personal enmity towards the driver of the bus. Pakistan has been grappling with a surge in attacks by armed groups, including criminal organizations and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, which seek to overthrow the government. The government has been working to combat these groups and ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
