Powdr Corp., a company that owns multiple ski resorts in the U.S. and Canada, has announced the sale of Vermont’s Killington Resort and Pico Mountain to a group of local passholders. The sale of these resorts comes as part of Powdr’s decision to list three other resorts for sale in the coming weeks: Eldora in Colorado, Mt. Bachelor in Oregon, and SilverStar in British Columbia.
The Salt Lake City-based company plans to retain ownership of Copper Mountain in Colorado and Snowbird in Utah while focusing on its ski business, concession contracts in National Parks, and operations of Woodward camps and mountain centers.
The purchase of Killington and Pico by local investors signifies a commitment to keeping the resorts in the hands of those who know and love them. The new owners plan to prioritize capital investment, community engagement, and sustainability.
Powdr initially bought Killington in 2007, and the ski area has been a stop on the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup tour for years. The company will retain a minority ownership stake and a seat on the board of directors.
The new owners at Killington and Pico intend to continue their presence on the popular Ikon ski pass with no changes to leadership or management. Killington expressed gratitude for Powdr’s stewardship over the years and believes that local ownership will enable a more responsive approach to community and guest needs.
