Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro responded to Donald Trump’s comments calling him a “highly overrated Jewish Governor”, which the White House condemned as antisemitic. Shapiro accused Trump of being obsessed with him and spreading hate and division.
The Arab American Institute criticized the DNC for not allowing a Palestinian American speaker at the Democratic convention, calling it a “boneheaded move”. Pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside a Democratic fundraiser in Chicago, chanting “Free, free Palestine”.
Lawmakers, including Rashida Tlaib and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, called for a Palestinian American speaker at the convention. Michigan representative Alabas Farhat wrote a letter to the DNC urging them to support the Uncommitted movement and advocate for a ceasefire in Gaza.
In Georgia, JD Vance criticized Kamala Harris’s immigration policies, referencing the death of Laken Riley, allegedly killed by an undocumented immigrant. Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff celebrated his 10th anniversary with Harris ahead of her speech at the convention.
The Arkansas Supreme Court rejected a petition for an abortion amendment to be on the ballot. Lori Lightfoot, the former mayor of Chicago, condemned Vance’s remarks about the city. A Muslim group disbanded over the lack of a Palestinian speaker at the DNC.
