Denver International Airport (DIA) is gearing up for a significant increase in passenger traffic, with projections indicating around 80 million passengers in 2024 and potentially reaching 100 million in the near future. In response to this growth, the airport is implementing renovations and expansions to accommodate the rising number of travelers.
The Great Hall project, aimed at enhancing airport infrastructure, is progressing ahead of schedule and under budget, allowing for funds to be allocated towards the North Terminal Expansion project. This expansion will focus on the area where international travelers are processed, with plans to add more security lanes and airline counters to support new international flights.
Jim Starling, the chief construction and infrastructure officer at DIA, emphasized the importance of modernizing and expanding airport facilities to meet the demands of future travel. While the current renovations are poised to enable the airport to handle 100 million passengers, the long-term goal is to sustain around 120 million by 2045.
With the recent opening of the West Security Checkpoint and plans for the East Security Checkpoint to follow suit, DIA is making strides towards enhancing efficiency and capacity for travelers. Designs for the North Terminal Expansion project are set to begin next year, reflecting the airport’s commitment to staying ahead of the growing demand for air travel in the Denver region.
