A man in his 40s suffered serious injuries after being struck by a whale while in a tinny in waters near the border of Queensland and New South Wales. The incident occurred off the coast of Coolangatta when a whale reportedly collided with the man’s boat, knocking him unconscious. Jetski riders in the area called emergency services just before 9am on Sunday to alert them of the situation. Queensland police emphasized the importance of wearing life jackets for all boaties and stated that the man was fortunate to have remained in his boat after the collision. The injured man was brought to shore by paramedics and taken to Gold Coast University Hospital where he received treatment for facial and spinal injuries. Thankfully, the Queensland Ambulance Service reported that he was in a stable condition. This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers that can arise when encountering wildlife in the ocean and the importance of taking safety precautions while out on the water. The man is currently recovering from his injuries and it is hoped that he will make a full recovery.
