Former NFL defensive lineman Warren Sapp has found a new passion in coaching as a graduate assistant with the Colorado Buffaloes football team. After being invited by his friend and Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders, Sapp quickly became addicted to working with the players and being a mentor to them. Despite never envisioning himself as a coach, Sapp feels purposeful and gratified in his new role.
Having been a dominant player during his career, Sapp is now learning the ropes of coaching and letting go of control on the field, while watching his players grow and improve. He is grateful for the opportunity to work with first-year CU defensive line coach Damione Lewis, a former standout from Miami and the NFL. The two share a mutual respect and love for the game, with Sapp eager to see the players succeed under their guidance.
Players, including seniors Shane Cokes, BJ Green, and Chidozie Nwankwo, appreciate Sapp’s wisdom and expertise, as they soak up his teachings and advice. Sapp, in turn, values the opportunity to give back and help the players reach their full potential. He is excited to see their progress and is committed to nurturing their growth both on and off the field.
With a deep love for the game and a desire to see his players flourish, Sapp is dedicated to planting the seeds of success that will blossom into beautiful achievements for the Buffaloes. Through hard work, dedication, and a shared passion for football, Sapp is determined to make a lasting impact on the players and the program.
