Portions of Colorado under Severe Thunderstorm and Flood Watch alert

Severe storms and heavy rain are expected to hit Colorado, with possible strong gusts and hail in Denver. A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Northeastern Colorado, with threats of wind gusts up to 70 MPH, large hail up to 2″ in diameter, and the possibility of a tornado. Counties included in the watch are Adams, Arapahoe, Cheyenne, Elbert, Kit Carson, Lincoln, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, and Weld. Additionally, a flood watch will remain in effect until 11 PM Tuesday night, as thunderstorms with heavy rain may produce 1-2″ in a short amount of time.

The monsoon moisture in place on Tuesday is bringing abnormally moist air across the Front Range, with slow-moving storms expected throughout the day. The burn scars in areas like Alexander Mountain, Stone Canyon, and Quarry are at greatest risk for severe weather. Joe Ruch, a First Alert Meteorologist with CBS News Colorado, is providing updates on the weather situation.
