Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an independent presidential candidate, has been barred from appearing on the November ballot in New York after a judge ruled that he provided false information about his residency in the state. Kennedy claimed to reside in Katonah, New York, where he rented a spare bedroom, but actually lived in California with his wife. The judge ordered that Kennedy’s name not be included on the ballot, potentially leading to similar challenges in other states.
Kennedy testified that he had temporarily lived in New York, but a neighbor and other evidence suggested otherwise. The lawsuit against Kennedy was supported by a Democratic-aligned political action committee, accusing him of being a “spoiler candidate” who could impact the outcome of the election and benefit Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Kennedy plans to appeal the decision, calling it a “partisan ruling” by a Democratic judge and accusing Democrats of trying to limit voter choices. Despite his low polling numbers, Kennedy’s candidacy could still impact closely contested battleground states in the presidential election. Democrats have criticized Kennedy as a reckless and dangerous individual who is willing to harm their chances of defeating Trump.
